RWHOIS

RWHOIS (RFC2167) is a distributed system for directory information relating to number and name resources on the internet. Hurricane Electric operates this service in the same spirit of general usefulness as it does its looking glass, BGP toolkit, IPv6 Tunnelbroker, and others.

Using the Service

The service operates at rwhois.he.net on TCP/4321 (the standard port). It accepts the following directives:

• Defined in RFC2167:
  • -rwhois - Set protocol version
  • -quit - Close the connection
  • -limit - Display and set the record return limit
  • -holdconnect - Display and set connection keep-alive
  • -display - List and choose a display method
  • -status - Display session information
  • -schema - Display class schemas
  • -class - Display version information for classes
  • -directive - Display server-allowed directives

Restrictions

In order to prevent abuse there are two main restrictions in place for the service:

• Query rate-limiting
• Privatization of certain information (as allowed by ARIN policy)

Reporting Issues

To report an issue with the RWHOIS service please contact support@he.net. Please include as much information as possible, including, at minimum, your client name and version, the IP address the query is originating from, the query made, and any data returned by the service.
